SPE Beyond the Borders 2025 Event

Last week, our team from the TU Clausthal SPE Student Chapter joined the SPE Beyond the Borders 2025 event in Hannover, Germany- and it turned out to be a truly enriching experience.

Over the course of three days, we explored the evolution of the energy industry through a combination of technical sessions, site visits, and international networking. The event kicked off in Wietze, at the historic German Oil Museum —a symbolic starting point that reminded us of how far the industry has come.

From there, we dove into discussions on the future:

  • The growing connection between geothermal energy and oil & gas
  • Real applications of AI in geoenergy and field operations
  • The current momentum and challenges in deep geothermal projects in Germany
  • Innovative materials like non-metallics in well construction

One of the standout experiences was the visit to Baker Hughes, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at their test drilling site and had great conversations with professionals working at the intersection of technology and operations.

But it wasn't all technical- the event also offered a space to connect on a more personal level. Whether during ice-breaking sessions, team activities or exploring Hannover together, it was clear that building a career in energy also means building strong, supportive networks.

A big thank you to SPE Germany (with special thanks to YP facilitators Rasoul Foroutan, Kseniia Zhukova and Niklas Romanowski), the speakers and everyone who contributed to making this event both insightful and welcoming.

We are happy to have taken part and are looking forward to future collaborations!
