Under the theme "Drilling Innovation & Challenging Times" professionals from academia and industry discussed the future of drilling technology, with a special emphasis on land drilling applications.

The conference was opened by Mr. Thor Noevig, Chairman of GeoEnergy celle e.V. The introduction and conference overview were presented by Prof. Dr. Joachim Oppelt, Director of Drilling and Production Department, Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Clausthal University of Technology.

The conference was started with two outstanding keynote speeches presented by Mr. Phil Longorio (CEO & President, Scientific Drilling International) and Dr. Geoff Downton (PhD, Schlumberger Fellow, Senior Technical Drilling Advisor, Schlumberger), followed by an outlook statement for the German E&P industry presented by Dr. Christoph Löwer (BVEG).

Spread over two days, technical program with eight sessions focused on downhole dynamics, case studies, modelling & simulation, drillstring components, telemetry and directional drilling, unconventional rock destruction, wellbore integrity, and drilling rig equipment and automation. The conference was closed with Guided Tour of Drilling Simulator Celle Research Institute.

Students from the Drilling and Production Department, Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Clausthal University of Technology, took part at the conference presenting their research and giving an outstanding impression. Two presentations out of 35 for the Technical Program were given by TU Clausthal delegates, Mr. Grijalva Meza and Mr. Asgharzadeh. Mr. Grijalva Meza presented his research which title is “Experimental and Simulated approach for measurement and control of Torsional Vibration response on the Drill String”. Mr. Asgharzadeh presented his research which title is “Analyzing the Characteristics of Communications made via Hydra-Jet-Drilling versus Fractures made via Hydraulic Fracturing”.
